Obituary of Carol Gilchrist Matthews

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Carol Matthews announce her passing on January 14^th, 2026, at St. Patrick’s Mercy Home in St. Johns, NL at the age of 76 years.

Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are her Daughter: Cathy (Darryl) Arnold; Grandchildren: Christopher Berlinger, Gabrielle (Ricky) Arnold, Shayne McInnes, and Paige Arnold; Great Granddaughter: Josie; Siblings: Allan (Rita) Michelin, Marguerite Michelin, and Kenneth (Mary) Michelin; As well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Carol was predeceased by her beloved Husband: Garry Matthews; Parents: Cyril and Florence Michelin; and Sister: Josie Michelin.

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 20^th at North West River United Church beginning at 11:00am with Debbie Blake officiating. Internment with graveside service to follow at North West River Community Cemetery with Rev. Alice Moores officiating.

The family would like to offer special thanks to the Labrador Grenfell Health Medical Staff as well as Mom's medical team 3rd Floor East in St. Patrick’s Mercy Home, St. John’s. And a heartfelt thank you to Rowena Kelloway and Lena Blundon for their unwavering support to Mom during her time in St. John's.
