Obituary of Derek Bruce Simmons
Derek Bruce Simmons
February 11, 1957 – January 27, 2026
With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Derek Bruce Simmons, a devoted son, husband, loving father, proud grandfather, and loyal friend, whose strength, kindness, and steady presence touched the lives of all who knew him.
Derek was the beloved husband of Rosemarie Simmons (Fitzpatrick), sharing a lifetime of love, partnership, and unwavering commitment. Together they built a home filled with warmth, laughter, and strong family values. Their bond was the foundation of their family and a beautiful example to all who knew them.
He was a proud and dedicated father to his daughter Stephanie (Quinton) Simms, and his sons Adam (Tatiana) Simmons and Andrew (Nancy) Simmons. Derek took great pride in his children and was always there with quiet encouragement, practical wisdom, and unconditional love. He was also a cherished grandfather to his grandson, Eric, who brought him immense joy and whom he loved dearly.
Derek had a distinguished career in fire services, serving as the Deputy Fire Chief of the City of Corner Brook and as a former Fire Commissioner of Newfoundland & Labrador. He was an active member of the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress and other professional organizations, dedicating his life to the safety and well-being of his community. His leadership, expertise, and commitment to excellence earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues across the province.
Derek will be remembered for his sincere and straightforward nature, strong work ethic, and dependable character. He was someone others could always count on — honest, generous with his time, quick to lend a hand, and happiest when surrounded by those he loved. His steady strength and caring heart left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
He is survived by his loving wife, Rosemarie; his children and their spouses; his beloved grandson, Eric; his mother, Eva; his sister, Shelia; his sister-in-law, Denise; his nieces, Jennifer and Ashley; as well as extended family and many dear friends who will cherish his memory.
