Obituary of Melvin Daniel Truman Parsons
Melvin Daniel Truman Parsons
February 25, 1943 – February 12, 2026
McIvers, NL
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Melvin Parsons announce his passing on Thursday, February 12, 2026 at the Western Long Term Care, Palliative Care Unit at the age of 82 years. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife Rowena; daughter Regina (Jeff); grandchildren: Brandon (Natalie) and Mackenzie (Joel); brother Laurence (Eileen); sister-in-law Bernice; special niece Judy (Clarence); brothers and sisters-in-law: Roger (Nancy), Marjorie (Esau), Kitty (Sam), Dawson (Gertie), John (Patsy); as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Nelson and Annie, parents-in-law Margaret and John, brothers and sisters Blandford, Wade (Pauline), Rhoda (Emmanuel), Cedella (Jim) and Marie, sister-in-law Doreen and brother-in-law Gerald.
Born in McIvers, NL on February 25, 1943, Melvin learned the value of hard work and dedication at a young age. He spent his winters working in the woods and his summers as a fisherman, later building a career as a heavy equipment operator and foreman on transmission lines across Newfoundland and Labrador.
Melvin had a deep love for the outdoors and treasured his time at his cabin in Goose Arm, where many fond memories were made. He enjoyed setting snares, cutting wood, and heading out on his skidoo whenever the weather allowed. In his later years, you could often find him at the poker table, tending to his garden, or going for one of his daily drives — simple pleasures that brought him great happiness.
Above all, Melvin’s greatest joy was his family. He and Rowena shared 57 years of marriage, building their home from the ground up and filling it with love as they raised their beloved daughter. Regina was the light of his life and he was endlessly proud of the woman she became. That love grew even deeper when he became a grandfather. His grandchildren, Brandon and Mackenzie, brought him a special kind of happiness, and he cherished every moment spent with them, creating memories they will carry with them always.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 14 from the hours of 2-4 p.m at Fillatre's Funeral Home, 4 St. Mark's Avenue. A celebration of life will follow at 4:00 p.m. from Fillatre’s Chapel with Rev. Terry Loder, Deacon Ray George and son-in-law Jeff Mitchell officiating. Interment to follow at a later date. As expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
A special thank you to Dr. Bolus, Dr. Lafferty, all the nurses and staff at the Palliative care Unit for their care and compassion.
