It is with profound sadness and shattered hearts that the family of late Amy Slaney age 53 of Torbay, NL, (formally of Stephenville Crossing), announce her passing on Saturday, February 14th at the Health Science Center, St. John’s. Amy attended St. Michael’s Elementary and graduated from Assumption High in 1990 and obtained a Paralegal certificate from Academy Canada in 1999, in St. John’s, NL. She was a gentle, unassuming person who lived quietly and happily doing the things she loved. Amy was an avid reader, she loved writing, especially short stories. A self-taught knitter, she made dish clothes by the dozens. She also loved her little outdoor garden filled with potted flowers, vegetables and berries. She was always up for a game of cards. Amy leaves to mourn with pleasant and loving memories, her partner of 29 years, Thor Potter of Torbay, and her treasured fur baby, Tiddles, her cat, her dad, Mike Slaney of Stephenville Crossing, and her mom Patty Downey – Hoven (Nish). Also left to grieve her passing her uncles: Terrence (Marg) Slaney, Alberta, Joseph (Elaine) Downey, Stephenville Crossing; her aunts: Milly Downey, Lisa Downey (Eric Valin), Jeanette Slaney, Patricia Byrne, and Margurite Slaney. Amy was predeceased by her grandparents Michael and Martha Slaney, Joseph and Annie Downey; her aunts: Janet Downey, Sheila Slaney, Carrie Hennebury, Dora Slaney– Muise; her uncles: Vincent Slaney, Ignatius Slaney, Eric Slaney, Ray Hennebury and Clare Muise; her dear first cousin, Tanya Slaney. Amy often said “Take what life gives you and run with it” No flowers please but a donation in Amy’s memory would be greatly appreciated to the SPCA or to the Spina Bifida Association. There will be no service at this time. Our family would like to say a very heartfelt thank you to the nursing staff of the ICU and special care unit at the Health Science Center for the professional and compassionate care they showed to Amy during the three months they cared for her. They treated her more like family and not just a patient. They are Angels.
