It is with great sadness that the family of the late Hilding Gerald Neilson announce his passing on Thursday, February 26, 2026 at the Western Long Term Care, Palliative Care Unit at the age of 73 years. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his siblings: Grant (Shirley) Neilson, Babs (Derm) Hayes, Linda Maddock and his twin brother Karl (Janice) Neilson; Hilding’s social worker Leah Forward for all she has done over the years; Humber Valley Cooperative Living Corporation Management and Staff: Roxanne Carey, Susan Antle, Lori Kearney-Wells, Barb Harding, Brittany Young, Cynthia Pittman, Sylvia Panela-Roth, Levi Sullivan, Jenelle LeRoy, Brittany MacDonald, Helen Liccud and any and all HVCLC staff who contributed to his care; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Eric and Barbara Neilson, brothers Eric, Donald and Raymond Neilson, sisters Greta Neilson and Olga Nilsson-French. A special thank you to Dr. B., nurses and staff at the Palliative Care Unit for the wonderful care shown to Hilding. Cremation has taken place. Friends may visit Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 4 St. Mark’s Avenue on Sunday from the hours of 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Monday, March 2 at 11:00 a.m. from Fillatre’s Funeral Chapel, St. Mark’s Avenue with Father Lee Lainey officiating. Interment to take place at a later date. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
