Alonzo (Lonz) James
November 2, 1934 - March 11, 2026
Corner Brook, NL
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Alonzo (Lonz) James announce his peaceful passing at Western Memorial Regional Hospital, Palliative Care Unit, Corner Brook on Wednesday, March 11th, 2026 at the age of 91 years.
Leaving behind his only daughter Christine and husband Gary Maddigan. Predeceased by his wife Elizabeth (Betty) Banfield, parents Roland and Caroline James of Corner Brook, his brothers, Woodrow and Gerald and his forever best friend Mel Gillam.
Dad was forever grateful for his friends who always kept in touch, Jamie Fowlow, Donny Hutchings, Andrew Brake, Eric Hoskins, Jeff Lamswood, John Veitch and Craig at Veitch's garage, Ina and George Earle, Hedley Best currently residing in FL, special friends Jim and Arlene Bathgate of St. John’s, Marie Gillam, Glenda Gillam, Fred and Geraldine Wall and Bruce Piercey, his buddy who came to visit daily.
Lonz started working with his father at the age of 14 doing Carpentry work. His next career was with Humber Motors Ford where he started with timekeeping, working in the Parts Department and then on to Sales. He moved on to other dealerships as Salesman with CBrook Pontiac, City Motors and last of all Fairway Honda where he found a new family and retired in 2004 at the age of 70.
Lonz will be remember by his wit, kindness and most of all his energy level. Mom and Dad lived a wonderful life with precious friends camping, playing darts, members of the Westmount Club traveling with the UCT and the cabin gatherings at George's Lake. Dad always loved to help his favorite son-in-law split wood and skin our moose during hunting season.
A huge thank-you to all the Doctors and Nurses on the Palliative Care Unit, especially Dr Ryan, Dr London, Dr White, Dr. Dunne, Dr. Bhanabhai & Dr. Boley. Your care and kindness towards my Dad will never be forgotten. All the staff were truly amazing. Dad loved his new home, and everyone made him so comfortable during his entire stay.
In honor of Alonzo's wishes there will be no service or visitation. Cremation has taken place. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to Western Regional Hospital Foundation.
To my heavenly parents.
Thank- you from the bottom of my heart for being wonderful parents and raising me well, teaching me kindness & respect.
Love always, forever missed
Daughter Christine
