Obituary of Olsen Amos Nochasak Ford
Please share a memory of Olsen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Olsen Amos Nochasak Ford, 18, of Makkovik, passed away on March 15, 2026, and left a deep ache in the hearts of his mom, his pop, his dad Amos, his step‑mom Roxanne, his family, and his community.
Olsen was a bright, funny, and unforgettable young Inuk who had a gift for showing up — truly showing up — for people. Whether he stopped to chat, cracked a joke, or simply acknowledged someone with a warm hello, he made others feel seen. His kindness reached across generations, connecting with kids, seniors, and everyone in between.
He listened deeply to the teachings of elders and to the stories of those with lived experience, both on the land and in the workforce. Olsen respected people’s journeys and carried their wisdom with him. His ability to bridge generations, to pause and give someone his full attention, was one of his greatest strengths.
Olsen had many favourite things, but nothing meant more to him than his nieces and nephews. They adored him and lovingly called him Uncle Babe. He enjoyed hockey, volleyball, and badminton, and he was surrounded by loyal friends who valued his humour, honesty, and steady presence. He loved wooding and spending time on the land. In the community, he helped wherever he was needed, never waiting to be asked. He became the man of the house at a young age, carrying responsibilities with a quiet strength that made him a solid leader.
Even as a child, Olsen had a natural sense for caring about people’s mental and emotional wellbeing. If someone wasn’t feeling well, he would gently tell them to go outside for some fresh air — simple advice, offered with genuine concern and a big heart.
Olsen is survived by his siblings: Julia, Nina, Jerry, Kevin, Michelle, Irven, Alyssa, and Harrison. He was a proud uncle to his nieces Logan, Isabel, Amelia and Vada, and his nephews Elijah and Silas. He leaves to mourn large extended families with many cousins, aunts, and uncles who loved him deeply. His humour, presence, and gentle spirit will be remembered by all who knew him, and his community will feel his absence in every place he once stood.
A service to honour Olsen’s life took place in Makkovik on March 21.
We, his family, will honour him in the way we live, the way we love, and the way we remember.

May his spirit travel safely, carried by the land, the water, and the ancestors who welcome him home.
He was my boy, my buddy, and the anchor of my heart — a mother–son bond like no other.
