Obituary of Winifred Duffett
Please share a memory of Winifred to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the family of the late Winifred Duffett announce her passing on 19 March 2026 at the age of 80.
Winifred passed away peacefully at the Long Term Care Home in Happy Valley-Goose Bay with her loving and devoted husband Max, son Billy and daughter Betty by her side.
Winifred was the daughter of Frederick Charles Dalton and Sarah Louisa Dalton of Little Catalina, NL. She leaves to mourn her devoted husband of 60 years, Max, son Billy (Amanda), daughter Betty; grandchildren, Amy, Charlene, Pamela, Nicholas and Allison; great-grandchildren, Jaxen, Jayce, Winn, Sofia and Miller; sister Marion (Ben), sister-in-law Emily, brother-in-law Lionel, and cousin, who was loved like a brother, Marvin (Joy), as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Winifred is predeceased by her parents Frederick Charles Dalton and Sarah Louisa Dalton of Little Catalina, NL, as well as her brother John and sisters Clara and Betty.
In 1965, Winifred moved to Happy Valley-Goose Bay to follow the love of her life Max, where they built a life, a loving home and created a family which she loved with every ounce of her being. She was a devoted wife and mother and welcomed all into her home with open arms. Many of Billy and Betty's friends often referred to her as "my second Mom", all of whom held a very special place in her heart. Her heart was large and full of love. Winifred loved to walk and would rarely be seen on the streets without her best friend of nearly 60 years, Nellie. Winifred was also an active volunteer within the community of Happy Valley-Goose Bay, serving as a Kinette for many years and an active member on the Libra House Board. She spent much of her career working at the Hudson Bay Company and later at Labrador Motors. Winifred loved to host parties for their friends where music and laughter would fill their basement into the wee hours of the morning. She absolutely loved music and was gifted at playing the accordion, piano and guitar. Winifred also loved to dance, which became evident to all within the Protective Care Unit, where many of the residents, and any nurse within arms reach, would join in the fun and dance right along with her, making any floor surface the dance floor.
Friends and family may visit Fillatre’s Funeral Home on Sunday, 22 March 2026 from 2:30 – 3:30 pm. A service will then be held at Fillatre’s Funeral home at 3:30pm, followed by burial at the Anglican Church cemetery.
As expressions of sympathy, and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Long Term Care Home, Happy Valley-Goose Bay, NL.
The family would like to offer their heartfelt thanks, appreciation and gratitude to Dr. Crocker, and the nurses and staff of Long Term Care. The love, kindness and compassion shown to Winifred and our family has been truly exceptional and will never be forgotten.
