With sad hearts the family of Garfield William “Bill” Lushman are announcing his passing on Sunday, March 29, 2026, at the age of 81 years at the Calder Healthcare Centre in Burgeo, NL.

Bill leaves to mourn his wife of 61 years, Mary Catherine “Kitty”; children, Wanda (Samuel) MacDonald, Garfield (Frances), Christine (Corey) Hefferan, Florence (Glenn) Walsh; grandchildren, Nicholas (Jessica), Jeremy, Brady (Jen), Kaylie (Jacob), Mia, Liam, Reid; great-grandchild, Mae. Also left to mourn are his siblings, Thomas (Debbie), Frank, Harriet Young, Laura (Leo) Kendall, Ronald (Dolores), as well as a circle of other relatives and friends.

Bill is predeceased by his parents, Francis and Florence; brother, Edgar; sisters, Mary, Martha Jane, Beatrice and Eva Barter; daughter, Audrey Jane; brothers-in-law, John Barter, Gerald Young; sister-in-law, Marilyn.

Bill met Kitty when they were both teenagers and started a family together. His family meant everything to him. He loved his children, grandchildren and great grandchild, and took pride in their accomplishments in life. Bill loved his boat and his cabin down Southeast. He was an avid reader and a man of faith. He loved the news (especially politics), hunting and the Montreal Canadiens. He loved long walks in nature and explored new walking trails wherever he went. Bill always wanted to put a smile on your face and to make you laugh, even during his recent stay in hospital. He felt humour was the best medicine. His philosophy in life he wanted to pass on to his family was to treat others with kindness and kindness will come back to you.

Thank you to the healthcare teams at Calder Healthcare Centre and Western Regional Memorial Hospital for the care they provided Bill during his time with them in recent months, as well as all healthcare providers who took care of him over the years. A special thank you to those who visited him in hospital and brightened his day.

Cremation has taken place and the memorial service will be held in the summer in his hometown of Grey River.
