Myra Hounsell

February 16, 1946 – March 31, 2026

Corner Brook, NL

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Myra Hounsell announce her passing on Tuesday, March 31, 2026 at the Health Science Centre, St. John’s at the age of 80 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are her children: Stephen Shears and Susan Shears (Nathan); brother Duke (Lynda), sister Patricia (Ernest); Daughters-In-Law Janet Pardy (David), Cindy Targett (Rod) and Lisa Reid (Ken); Son-In-Law John (Linda); Granddaughters Madison and Jazz, special niece Paula, whose children (Sophie, Gavin and Amber) knew Myra as “Grandma”, other nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

She is predeceased by her partner John Brake, parents Richard and Violet Hounsell and brother Paul (Jean).

From humble origins, Myra was a strong, independent woman who identified as a proud Newfoundlander. She embodied the spirit of community engagement, giving selflessly of her time and fulfilling important volunteer roles with both the Children’s Wish Foundation and the Anglican Church.

Above all though, Myra valued family, friendship and her faith in God. 

Friends and family may visit Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 4 St. Marks Avenue on Tuesday, April 7th  from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 8th at 2:00 p.m. from St. Michael’s and All Angels Anglican Church, Park Drive with Reverend Edward King and Reverend Mickton Phiri officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Patricia cemetery.

As expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers the family requests that donations may be made to the Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada.
