It is with deep sorrow that the family of the late Alex Shears announce his passing on Saturday, April 4th, at Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital, Stephenville at the age of 75 after a long battle with numerous health conditions with his wife Mary faithfully by his side until the end.
He leaves to mourn his wife of 54 years, Mary (MacDonald) ; daughter Kelly (Mark) Cooper; grandchildren: Ethan Shears, Erica and Austin Cooper; sisters: Rose (Stan) Layden, Olive ( Bobby) Brake, Josephine( Stan) Howe; brother Donald Shears (Renne); brothers and sisters- in- law : Gerald Boudreau, Peter Renouf, Beulah Shears, Charles MacDonald, Stanley MacDonald, Gerald (Trudy) MacDonald, Bernadette MacDonald, Claudette MacDonald, Loretta Laurie, Freda MacDonald, Eileen ( Steve) St.Croix, Delphine (Dave) Renfrew as well as many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
Alex drove tractor trailer to make a living travelling all over Canada and the United States until his retirement.
He is predeceased by his parents: Norman & Menorah (Warren); siblings: Keith, Bernice, Dora, Ronald (Laura) Chess and Diane; stepsisters: Ciciley (William) Gillam, Muriel (Augustus) Hulan; brothers and sisters -in – law: Clyde MacDonald, Paul Joerges, Donna MacDonald and Rick Laurie.
In respecting Alex’s wishes cremation will take place and interment will be held in the summer of 2026. As expressions of sympathy donations may be made to the St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church Cemetery, Heatherton.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 37 West Street, Stephenville Crossing. The family guestbook may be signed at www.fillatre.ca
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the doctors, nurses and their staff at Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital for their compassionate care shown to Alex and to his special home support caregiver Donna Hulan who was always a bright part of his day with her patience and wonderful care.
