Obituary of Maisie Emma Grace Barter
Maisie Emma Grace Barter
October 6, 1944- April 5, 2026
Ramea, NL
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Maisie Emma Grace Barter (nee. MacDonald), on April 5, 2026, at Western Memorial Regional Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Maisie lived a life filled with love, joy, laughter, and happiness. A life truly well lived.
Maisie was the definition of selflessness, always placing the needs of others before her own. She would do anything for anyone, never hesitating to lend a helping hand or offer support wherever it was needed. She was a devoted and loving wife, a proud and caring mother, a cherished Nan and Great Nan, and a pillar of strength and kindness within the community of Ramea. Her gentle spirit, warm smile, and generous heart left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her. She was always up for a great laugh, especially when surrounded by her family.
Left to celebrate her life and carry on her legacy of love is her devoted husband of 60 years, Eric, with whom she shared a lifetime of love, partnership, and cherished memories. She was the proud and loving mother of Denise, Ruby (Brent), Johnnie (Amy), and Jeanette (Dave); precious grandchildren: Emma (Dante), Amanda (Liam), Britney, and Leah; great-grandson: Jack. She also leaves behind Tom, who was a brother to her and whom she cared for; brothers-in-law Art Barter and Wayne (Frances) Barter; sister-in-law Marjorie (Walter) Crewe, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
We take comfort in knowing that she has been reunited with her beloved parents, Leah and John Tom MacDonald; her sister, Annie Foote; her parents-in-law, Rita and Ernest Barter; her sister-in-law, Rosemary Barter; her brother-in-law, Edwin Barter; and Freeman (Stella) Barter, who was like a brother.
Maisie dedicated much of her life to her community, Ramea, through volunteerism, something she truly loved and embraced wholeheartedly. She was often the first to step forward, the first to arrive, and the last to leave. Her involvement spanned many organizations, including Girl Guides and Brownies, LOBA, the Ladies Auxiliary, the Ramea Lioness Club, St. Boniface Church Choir, the Group Committee, and many others. Her contributions left a lasting impact on the community she served so faithfully.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Calder Health Centre, Western Memorial Regional Hospital ER Department and ICU for their exceptional care, compassion, and support.
As Maisie would always say, “I love you all—don’t ever forget it.” We will hold those words close in our hearts and will never forget just how deeply she loved us all.
In following Maisie’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A visitation will be held on Thursday, April 9, 2026 from 2 to 4pm at St. Boniface Anglican Church. A service will take place April 10, 2026 at 2pm at St. Boniface Anglican Church with Rev Brenda Strickland officiating.
