Elizabeth (Betty) Waterman

September 21, 1948 – April 19, 2026

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Elizabeth “Betty” Waterman on April 19, 2026.

Born in Grand Falls, Newfoundland on September 21, 1948, Betty was the beloved daughter of the late Lionel and Elsie Sooley. Betty carried with her a deep sense of kindness and resilience, she had a way of making people feel at ease the moment they met her.

Betty was predeceased by her parents, her brother Jerry and her cherished son Kristofer. She leaves to mourn Dennis; her children Rick and Aley, son-in-law David; her treasured granddaughter Emma; her brother Randy and sister-in-law Lynn, niece Nikki and Nephew Reid; as well as her chosen family and dear friend Joanne MacIntyre, who held a special place in her heart.

Betty gave her time and energy selflessly. She was actively involved with the Kinettes, served on the library board, contributed to the Corner Brook Stream Foundation, and was a member of the Board of TNL. She also volunteered with the RAC and lovingly ran the gift shop at Long Term Care, always greeting others with kindness and a welcoming smile. In 2024, she was honored with the Confederation 75th Anniversary Medal in recognition of her outstanding contributions to her community.

Betty had a passion for life and a curiosity that took her travelling around the world. At home, she found joy in her book club; card games with friends; long walks, and she maintained an active role in the arts community. She was cited by many young creatives as a deeply accepting, warm, and supportive force.

A true matriarch, Betty devoted herself wholeheartedly to her family. She was known for her brilliant wit, her thoughtful perspective, and her unwavering love. Her legacy will live on in the lives she touched, and the family she adored. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
