It is with great sadness that the family of the late Anita Trudy Bell Baikie announce her passing on April 22nd, 2026 at her home in Nain, NL at the age of 62 years.

Trudy Baikie was born to Mary and Hayward Colbourne on April 22, 1964, in St. Anthony, NL. Trudy married Gary Baikie on August 7, 1987, in St. Anthony. She moved to Nain in 1984 and made it her home surrounded by her family and friends who she cared deeply about and loved dearly. Trudy loved life, she was always busy doing something and loved to make things fun. She was always the happiest when she was working with her hands and spending time with those she loved. She had a quick wit and a great sense of humor. She always wanted the best for those around her. She treasured going to Black Island and spending time at her cabin. She was a talented seamstress and artist who loved to share with and learn from others. In her later years, she was a proud Nâni and dedicated her time to making memories with her two precious granddaughters who were the brightest lights of her life.

Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are her husband: Gary; her daughters: Danielle (Colin) and Caitlyn; her two granddaughters: Siasi and Evie T; her sisters: Lavinia, Pearl and Ann (Bill); her half-brother: Heber (Loretta); her sisters-in-law: Jessie (Dennis), Theresa, Carla (Richard), Lynn (Cheryl); and brother-in-law Wayne, as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, extended relatives and many friends.

Trudy was predeceased by her Father: Hayward; Mother: Mary; father-in-law: Norman; mother-in-law: Christine; brother: Sherlock; sister: Joan (Don); son-in-law: Brandon; and sister-in-law: Brenda.

Friends and family may visit Fillatre’s funeral home, Happy Valley-Goose Bay on Monday, April 27th between the hours of 7:00-9:00pm. Cremation will be taking place in the coming days and a funeral service will be announced at a later date.

The Family would like to extend sincere thanks and gratitude to the nursing staff from the Nain community Clinic and the Department of Health and Social Development (NG) who supported and provided care for Trudy, and honoured her wishes: Vanessa, Emily, Luke, Nicole, Darlene, Annette, and Courtney. As well, her team at the cancer care unit in Happy Valley Goose-Bay who provided her with exceptional care throughout her journey: Angie, Julia, Katie and Dr. Dillon. If we have forgotten anyone it is not intentional. Trudy was fortunate to receive care and support from so many extraordinary nurses, doctors and health care workers. The Family would like to acknowledge and thank Tom Randell and Air Borealis for your generosity and support. Thank you to those who have connected with us through phone, message, traveling to see her and offering your kind gestures, deliveries of food and support. Your kindness will never be forgotten
