Obituary of Rev. Harry James Whitehorne

It is with great sadness that the family of Rev.  Harry James Whitehorne announce his passing on  April 23, 2026 at the age of 88. 

Harry was born in Springdale NL, the only son of Lucy ( Rowbottom) and Henry Whitehorne.

Harry leaves to mourn,  his wife of 67 years,  Audrey Whitehorne ( Jenkins), daughters Lorraine Gosse ( Robert), Loretta Whitehorne ( Robert Siddall), Lorna Whitehorne ( Terry Tilley),  the joys of his life, his three grand children Christopher Gosse ( Megan Clarke) Steven Dumaresque, and Rachel Siddall ( Evan Morrison), as well as daughter-in-law Karen Whitehorne,  brother-in-law Arthur Jenkins, and his many extended family members and friends.

 He was pre-deceased by his son Andy Whitehorne ( Karen). 

Harry and Audrey married young and had their family in Springdale. In the early 70’s, they moved to Wabush where Harry worked with Wabush Mines. At the age of 40, Harry went back to university and received a Degree in Theology from the Atlantic School of Theology, spending the next 40 years working as a United Church Minister. That career took them to several communities in Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Ontario. His last position was at First United Church in Corner Brook, where he was Minister Emeritus. 

Harry’s free time was spent reading, traveling, spending time with family, and the occasional card game with friends. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.

The  family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff at Corner Brook Long Term Care for their dedication and compassion in taking care of Harry for the past 2.5 years. 

Visitation will take place at Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 4 St. Marks Ave. Corner Brook  on May 28, 2026, 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00. A celebration of life will be held at  Corner Brook United Church, Park St. Corner Brook on May 29, 11:00 am, officiants Rev. Dr. Wayne Cole and Rev. John van Vliet with reception to follow.
