Obituary of James Porter Young

James (Jim) Porter Young
October 23, 1945 – April 29, 2026

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, and brother, Jim Young, at the age of 80.

Jim was born in Grey River, NL, where he lived until the age of 16. He later moved to Burgeo, where he spent many years working on the draggers. He went on to become a diesel mechanic at the local plant, where he remained until its closure.

Jim was well known in the community for his willingness to lend a hand, always ready to fix anything for anyone who needed it. He has now been reunited with his loving wife, Amelia, with whom he shared 54 wonderful years of marriage.

Leaving to mourn are his children: Paul (Paula), Jamie (Grace), and Kelly Dawn(Glenn); his grandchildren: Keanna (Justin) and Dalton (Beth); his cherished great-granddaughter, Cleo; his brother, George; and his sisters: Marie (Percy) and Susie (Wayne). He was predeceased by his brother, Frank, his sister, Elizabeth, as well as several brothers- and sisters-in-law.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A service will be held at a later date.
