It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Roderick Joel Wheeler of Curling, Corner Brook, Newfoundland. Rod was a man who valued friendship, family, and the simple moments spent with the people he cared about most. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, his stories, and the many memories he created throughout his life.
Rod past in the arms of his loving wife Sharon of 44 years, also leaving behind his loving daughters, Crystal (Dave) Dawe and Nicole (Jason) Stagg; his cherished grandsons, Riley , Lukas Dawe and Parker Stagg, who brought him endless pride and joy. Rods last days were spent listening to his son in-law fill his hospital room with the sounds of guitar with many of his favourite songs surrounded by his favourite people.
Rod is Predeceased by his Father Joel ,Mother Jean Wheeler and His close friend Stan Woods.Waiting for him is his Best friend Phonse, who is likely already burning rubber into heaven beside him once again, like they did so many times in his prized 69 Camaro they built together.
Rod dedicated many years of his life to the heavy equipment industry, where he built a career through hard work, determination, and pride in everything he did. Alongside his wife, he helped build their company with passion and commitment. Rod took great pride in his work and was known for his strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to lend a hand whenever needed. His dedication earned him the respect of many throughout the industry and community. A sincere thank you to Patrick Barry for stepping up without a hesitation to help with work when Rod no longer was able to and Shawn Dawe for helping when needed and always being a partner in crime , leaving no road safe from their shenanigans. One of Rod's greatest joys was spending time at his cabin at Grand Lake with his wife and family. Whether out on the water fishing or gathered together enjoying the quiet moments, those times meant the world to him. He cherished watching his grandsons catch their very first fish — moments that will forever remain treasured memories for his family.
Rod shared a very special bond with his son-in-law Dave, who became much more like a son to him over the years. The two spent countless hours together, whether it was fishing, sharing their love for heavy equipment, driving across Canada together, working on his beloved car, or simply enjoying long phone calls filled with advice, stories, and laughter. Their friendship and connection were built on respect, and countless memories that will forever be cherished. Rod shared a lifelong passion for drag racing and formed countless friendships through the racing community in Stephenville and beyond. The memories made at the track, in the garage, and among friends will forever be treasured.
Heartfelt thanks to Dr Slipp and Melina for all their outstanding care, love and attention over the past few years. Thank you Sarah Croucher,Jackie and all the nurses on 4C for always bringing a smile to his hospital room. Last but Certainly not least his Palliative Care nurse Jackie Pennell for Welcoming us and making the last part of his journey a little easier. We will never forget your compassion and understanding.
Though he may be gone from our sight, the love, laughter, and memories he leaves behind will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
