Obituary of Hazel Brenton

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Hazel Minnie Brenton announce her passing on May 25^th, 2026, at Long Term Care, Happy Valley-Goose Bay, NL at the age of 99 years. She would have celebrated her 100^th birthday on June 28, 2026.

Hazel leaves behind a beautiful legacy of children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, along with a large circle of cherished friends whose lives were touched by her kindness, warmth and her sense of humour. She loved knitting, sharing stories of her past, working on puzzles, and especially sitting and chatting with anyone who took the time to visit with her. Her friendship with Vivian Decker was one she treasured deeply.

To her family , she was a treasure, a blessing, and truly a Queen. Her love, strength, wisdom, and gentle presence will remain in our hearts forever. She will always be deeply loved, forever remembered, and profoundly missed. And though our hearts will miss her dearly, we find comfort in knowing she is now at peace among the angels and reunited with her loved ones that went before her.

Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are her children: Raymond Brenton, Wilson Brenton (Pearl), Bessie Brenton (Jack Courage), Alfred Brenton (Charlotte), David Brenton (Lillian), and Ruby Pittman (Bruce); a large circle of treasured grandchildren, great- grandchildren and great-great- grandchildren; as well as many extended relatives and friends.

Hazel was predeceased by her husband: Alexander Brenton; parents: William and Annie Hancock; daughters: Mae Hopkins, and Shirely Brenton; son: James (Jim) Brenton; grandson: Leroy Brenton; great-granddaughter: Natosha Fillier; brothers: Stanley Hancock, and Willis Hancock; sisters: Fannie Simms, Irene Jacobs, and Rowena Hopkins; and daughter-in-law: Marjorie Brenton.

A visitation will be held at Fillatre’s Funeral Home, Happy Valley-Goose Bay on Friday, May 29^th, 2026, from 7:00-9:00pm.

The funeral will take place on Saturday, May 30^th, 2026, from the Salvation Army Citadel, Happy Valley-Goose Bay, starting at 2:00 pm with Major Kay Barnes officiating. Interment to follow at the Salvation Army Cemetery.

The family would like to offer their sincere thanks to the doctors and nurses of the Labrador Health Centre and to the care providers of the Long Term Care Facility.
