Obituary of Garfield Bessey

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Garfield Bessey announce his passing on May 31^st, 2026, at the Labrador Health Centre, Happy Valley-Goose Bay, NL at the age  of 83 years.

Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are his wife: Lily; daughters: Cindy (Dean), Sherry (Billy), Lois (Paul), Shelly (Dwayne); daughter in law: Claudette; grandchildren: Brandi, Jonathan, Jason, Caleigh, Bobbi, Haley, Jacob, Cheyenne, Cameron, Kelsey, Courtney, MacKenzie, Landon and Jaylee; great grandchildren: Gavin, Kaydence, Ellenor, Poppy, Olive, Evie and Koda: brothers: Melvin (Dorothy), and Hounsell (Gertie); sisters: Martha, Rebecca, Lavenia and Verna; as well as  large circle of extended relatives and friends.

Garfield was predeceased by his sons: Bob and Derek; parents: James and Phoebe; sisters: Violet, Jessie, Vina and Effie and; grandson: Justin.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 6^th, 2026, from the Happy Valley-Goose Bay United Church, starting at 2:00 pm with Rev Alice Moores officiating. Interment to follow at the United Church Cemetery.

As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Happy Valley-Goose Bay United Church.

The family would like to offer special thanks to the quick response of the paramedics and the care and compassion shown by Dr Curran and the nursing staff in the emergency department.
