Obituary of Verna Leona Hickey

Verna Hickey 

Verna Hickey (née Batten) of Corner Brook passed peacefully away at the Corner Brook Palliative Care Unit on May 31st 2026 surrounded by her loving family, at the age of 97 years.

Forever loved by her children: Marion (Martin), Susan (Michael), and Ted (Beverley). She will also be deeply missed by her grandchildren: Kenny, Crystal (Ben), Ashley (Dustin), Terri (Glen), Matthew (Caitlin), and Julia (Nicholas); and by her great-grandchildren: Ashton, Josephine, Jazzlynn, Anna, Zoey, and Jesse.

Leaving to mourn are her brothers: Donald (Minetta) and Austin (Margaret); sister Marion; brother-in-law Ron (Maxine); sisters-in-law Laura and Mona; special niece Dianna Batten; and special nephew Tony Batten, along with many other relatives and friends.

Verna was predeceased by her husband, Ted Hickey in 2005; parents, Donald and Blanche (Clench) Batten; brothers Raymond, Bruce, and Jerry; and sisters Evelyn and Joan.

A heartfelt thank you is extended to the medical staff at the HUB, 4C, and Palliative Care Units at Western Memorial Hospital for their compassion and care. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Western Memorial Regional Hospital Foundation.

Visitation will be held on Saturay, June 6 from the hours of 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 4 St. Mark’s Avenue from where the funeral service will follow immediately at 3:00 p.m. from Fillatre’s Funeral Chapel. Interment to follow at Mount Patricia Cemetery.
