Obituary of Eric George Poole
Please share a memory of Eric to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Eric George Poole announce his passing on June 1, 2026, at the Labrador Health Centre in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, NL, at the age of 74. Eric is predeceased by his mother Doris, father Hubert, sister Louise and brother Lester.
Leaving to mourn with many fond and loving memories are his wife of 41 years, Loraine; daughter Mandy (Jeffrey); brothers Freeman, Ivan, Barry (Jenny), Ross (Agnes) and Alton (Emily); sisters Lucy, Loretta, Carrie, Betty (Glen), Hazel (Bert), as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, and many lifelong friends from his hometown of St. Lewis (Fox Harbour) and beyond.
Eric had a brief but difficult journey with cancer that lasted from January to June. Throughout this time, his daughter Mandy and family remained by his side, providing comfort and support every step of the way. During his final months, Eric shared many fond memories of past joys and adventures - from fishing trips ‘down the shore’ to Hills Harbour, to his 19 years grooming snowmobile trails across southern Labrador.
Eric was well loved and respected by many, often the go-to person with any mechanical problem, big or small. While Eric had no formal education beyond Grade 7, his skill, ingenuity, and practical knowledge were extensive. He was able to fix everything from chainsaws to longliners and was well known for it. He was the first person who came to mind when there was a problem to be solved, and he didn’t mind teaching others how to do things for themselves. All ages were welcome at Eric’s shed, and they always left with more knowledge than what they entered with.
Eric was not a religious or spiritual man. He had practical beliefs, that included leaving the land untouched, “as though we were never there,” and chose cremation with no formal funeral procession. At a later date, the family will announce a visitation day at Eric’s shed, before his ashes are given their final home.
The family would like to recognize with gratitude the wonderful nursing staff at the Labrador Health Centre; in particular Kyle, Mandy, Sharon and Kara. Your kindness in Eric’s final days will always be remembered.
As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Silver Fox 50+ Club in St. Lewis. Eric may not have been the most openly social at community events, but he knew what community meant to people and greatly valued the company of his friends.
