John was predeceased by his son: Terry, and parents: Arthur and Marion Rixon.

John was a remarkable man whose presence left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him. Known for his quick wit, sharp sense of humour, and ability to bring laughter into any room, John had a unique gift for making people feel welcome and valued.

He loved a good debate and never shied away from a spirited discussion. Whether around the dinner table, at work, or among friends, John challenged others to think deeply while always finding a way to keep the conversation engaging and enjoyable. His intelligence was matched only by his curiosity and his genuine interest in the people around him.

As a teacher for many years, John dedicated his life to helping others learn and grow. He firmly believed that education was one of life's greatest gifts and encouraged those around him to pursue knowledge, ask questions, and never stop learning. His impact reached far beyond the classroom, touching the lives of countless students, colleagues and community members.

John was also a man who believed in the value of hard work. He led by example, teaching through his actions that meaningful accomplishments come from dedication, perseverance, and effort. He understood that no one succeeds alone and often reminded his children that strong communities are built when people come together to support one another. He role modeled this in the many committees and board work that he was a part of.

Above all else, John was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. His cherished wife, Sophie, was the love of his life and his steadfast partner through the years. Together they built a family that was John's greatest pride and joy. John loved his children and took immense pride in the people they became. He was their teacher long before he entered any classroom, sharing with them his values of hard work, education, kindness and unconditional love. His guidance and unwavering belief in them will remain with them always.

Nothing brought a bigger smile to John's face than his grandchildren. He delighted in their accomplishments, treasured time spent with them and embraced every opportunity to share stories, laughter, wisdom and experiences. To them, he was more than a grandfather - he was a source of love, comfort, humour and inspiration.

John's life was one well lived, a life marked by purpose, generosity, laughter, learning and love. He will be profoundly missed and lovingly remembered always. In the words of one of his favourite musicians, life is often measured not only by the years we live, but by the lives we touch. By that measure, John's life was truly extraordinary.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date this summer.

The family would like to offer special thanks to Dr Catherine Crocker for her exceptional care. Special thanks to the staff of Long Term Care for loving our dad as your own.
