Obituary of George Thomas Hilliard

Hilliard George Thomas 1948 – 2026

It is with great sadness that the family of the late George Thomas Hilliard announce his passing on Friday, June 26th at Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital, Stephenville at the age of 77. George (better known as “Tom”) was born on September 20, 1948, at Cape Anguille, NL where he spent the first part of his life until he met his wife of 52 years, Monica (King) Hilliard. They started a family in St. Fintan’s and continued to reside there until his passing. Tom enjoyed life out in the open water for many years. It was his passion to be fishing with his dear friend Jack Harris. Anyone that had the pleasure of knowing Tom would say how friendly and good natured he was and how much he enjoyed life until life dealt him a bad hand. Tom leaves to mourn his loving wife, Monica Hilliard ; sons: Roger, Lester ( Molly) ; daughters: Catherine ( Leo), Elaina ; grandchildren: Rebecca ( Marcus), Natasha and Logan ; step- grandchildren: Kelsey & Tori ; great-granddaughter, Chole ; step- great – grandchildren : Nixon, Aria & Arlo ; brother Bill ; sisters: Patrica and Linda Hiram. He was predeceased by his parents: Roy & Annie Hilliard; father and mother- in- law, Willis & Elsie King; brother, Ronnie; sister -in- law, Bernice Hiscock; in-laws: Francis, Chesley, Jimmy, Ivy, Terry and Violet. Tom’s family is taking comfort knowing he is no longer suffering and is at peace. In respecting Tom’s wishes cremation will take place. A family service will be held on Wednesday, July 1st 3:00 pm from Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 37 West Street, Stephenville Crossing with Father Joseph officiating.
