Obituary of Martha Best

It is with profound sadness that the family of the late Martha Best announce her passing on July 1^st, 2026, at Long Term Care, Happy Valley-Goose Bay, at the age of 90 years.

Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are her children: Ruby (John), Barry, Karen, Judy (Kerry), Terry, Peggy, and Garry (Jackie); daughter in law: Karen Best; grandchildren: Morgan, Barry Jr, Jeremy, Jennifer, Christopher, Tara, Craig, Corey, Trevor, Vanessa, Adam, and Ryan; brothers: Melvin and Hounsell Bessey; sisters: Rebecca O’Leary, Lavenia Green , and Verna Plante; as well as a large circle of extended relatives and friends.

Martha was predeceased by her parents: James and Phoebe Bessey; sisters: Violet March, Vina Roberts, Jessie Blake, and Effie Best; brother: Garfield Bessey; son: Perry Best; granddaughter: Christian; and son-in-law: John Hickey.

Visitation will be held at Fillatre’s Funeral Home, Happy Valley-Goose Bay on Saturday July 4^th, 2026, from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 pm.

The funeral service will take place on Sunday, July 5^th, 2026, from the United Church, Happy Valley-Goose Bay starting at 2:00 pm with Rev Alice Moores officiating. Interment to follow at the United Church Cemetery, Happy Valley-Goose Bay, NL.

The family would like to offer special thanks to the nursing and PCA staff at Long Term Care, as well as to Rhona Wall who checked in on her Aunt Martha each day.
