Clara Anderson
March 18, 1933 – July 2, 2026

Clara Anderson passed peacefully into the presence of the Lord on Thursday, July 2, after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Clara was born and raised in Glenburnie to William and Eva McKenzie. Her ancestors were of Scottish descent, a fact that brought her great pride. The McKenzie home produced 7 children and Clara was the oldest of four girls. Her siblings were Eric, Maude (Clyde Belben), Hughie (Hazel), Sarah (Kenneth Belben), Eileen, Wade (Zonya).

Clara married Robert Anderson of Shoal Brook and had 68 years together. Most of those years were lived in Deer Lake where they raised three boys: Eric (Lynn), Paul (Marilyn), Rick (Calla). Sadly, Lynn, Rick and Calla, all died in recent years leaving behind a deep wound.

Her grandchildren were Dr. Jonathan Anderson (Chrissy), Sharilyn Anderson (Arthur), Shelley Anderson-White (Chris). Jonathan and Chrissy have two energetic children: Elijah and Caleb. Shelley and Chris have five children: Ezra, Eli, Penny, the only great granddaughter, Elton and Wayland. Pictures of great grandchildren brought huge smiles to mom. The most recent was during her stay in Palliative Care. It was of a young, great grandson pulling out his mother’s potted plants wearing nothing but a pamper and a huge smile.

Mom and Dad devoted countless hours in pouring themselves into Rick’s son, Cody. They loved dearly all their grandchildren, but in their later years they took Cody under “their protective wings” and helped guide him as a son.

Both mom and Dad were home people. They loved their little nest and took great care and pride in its upkeep. Evenings were spent together quilting or other productive projects. Idle hands were next to the unpardonable sin. They never strayed far from home. Occasional trips to St. John’s or Ontario to visit grandkids brought immense satisfaction.

As a family, we are grateful and honour the memory of our mother and late Dad who died 8 years ago. We are grateful to the wonderful staff at the Palliative Care Unit, and Dr Joy Greenland. We are grateful for the loving care of Pastor Jeffrey White and team. We are grateful for the staff and special friendships formed during her stay at Deer Lake Manor. We are grateful to you, the nameless ones, who have touched and supported mom during her illness.

A visitation will be held for family and friends at Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 10 Clinic Drive, Deer Lake on Sunday, July 5th from the hours of 2 – 4 pm and 7 – 9 pm. The funeral service will take place at Fillatre’s Funeral Home on Monday, July 6th at 2 pm with Pastor White officiating. An interment will follow at the Deer Lake Interdenominational Cemetery.
