Doris Meta Pinksen

July 25, 1939 - July 1, 2026

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our beloved mother, Doris Meta Pinksen, on July 1, 2026.

After being admitted to hospital last September, Mom’s health declined rapidly, and she spent her final months at Corner Brook Long Term Care Home.

During this difficult time, we were surrounded by the kindness of many who cared for her. We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the caring staff at Western Regional Hospital and Corner Brook Long Term Care Home for the compassion and kindness they showed Mom throughout her journey. We are also deeply grateful to Chevon and Cathy, her home care workers in Seal Cove, whose care and support allowed Mom to remain at home for as long as possible.

As we reflect on her life, we remember the many roles she held and the love she shared so freely. Mom was predeceased by the love of her life, her husband, Lionel Pinksen.

She leaves to mourn her children Kathy (Tim), Peggy (Rocky), and Stephen; her grandchildren Kimberly, Katelyn, Kevin, Kristopher, Joshua, Jenna, Jeffrey, Matilda, and Sadie; her great-granddaughter Daphne; her brother Edward Pike; her sister Bernice Farrell; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Her life’s work was a reflection of her deep compassion for others. Mom retired after a rewarding career as a Public Health Nurse in St. Lawrence, Newfoundland and Labrador, where she also served as the community’s school nurse. Through her work, she cared for generations of families, and many in the community came to know her through her compassion, kindness, and dedication.

That same spirit of care extended far beyond her profession and into every aspect of her life. Whether she was caring for patients, supporting her family, or helping a friend in need, Mom’s life was defined by compassion and service. As a public health nurse, a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a proud grandmother, she gave of herself wholeheartedly. She was the rock that held our family together. Her sense of humor, boundless energy, and determination touched everyone who knew her. Through countless health crises, her unwavering strength and devotion helped carry Dad through some of life’s most difficult moments.

Alongside her strength and dedication was a vibrant sense of adventure that stayed with her throughout her life. She had an adventurous spirit, taking up cross-country skiing in her early 70s and later regularly attending a gym program. Covid took its toll on her health, as the shutdown resulted in less physical activity. She also loved new gadgets, from the early model car cell phone she proudly owned to her car tire auto inflater, hot dog toaster, and ice cream maker. Her sense of adventure was evident long before that, including a memorable trip to Florida in 1979. Before the age of GPS, she travelled with her dear aunt and friend Marie Rennie, rented a car, and confidently drove four children from St. Pete Beach to Orlando and on to Tampa—an experience that perfectly captured her independence, courage, and love of family.

At home, it was the simple moments that brought her the greatest joy. She loved her life in Seal Cove, especially the many outings on the family boat, the Wanda Marie, where so many cherished memories were made.

Those memories were often centered around the warmth of her home and the love she shared through everyday acts. Her kitchen was the heart of our family. Her cooking and baking were legendary, and every meal she prepared was another way she showed her love. Her years revolved around visits from her family, and she was always planning how to make everyone feel welcome. More than anything, she loved her family with all her heart, and we will carry that love with us always.

As we say goodbye, we hold tightly to the memories she gave us and the legacy she leaves behind. We will miss her deeply and will hold her memory close in our hearts.

Rest in peace, Mom. You will be forever loved, forever missed, and forever in our hearts.
