I met Jose in 2009 when he rented our home in Corner Brook as we were leaving town and he was arriving. In all our communication over the years he was kind and gracious and an overall terrific person.
I was very sad to hear of his unexpected passing, at such a young age. My sincere condolences to Jose's family and friends.

Jose was my first friend at Grenfell and one of my closest friends during the six years I lived in Corner Brook. We continued to stay in touch after I moved away, and I am extremely saddened by his passing. I would like to extend my heartfelt condolences to his family and to the many other people whom Jose called friends. This is a huge loss for all of us.

I have known Dr. Jose Lam for over 30 years in a number of capacities. First, I taught Jose two courses in Entrepreneurship and Strategic Management at the MBA program at John Molson School of Business, Concordia University, Montreal. Because of his impressive rcord and friendly attitude I selected him to be a member of the Concordia MBA Small Business Consulting Bureau aimed at mentoring entrepreneurs in Montreal, Vermont and Plattsburg, New York. Because of his interest in Entrepreneurship and family Business I encouraged him to do a Ph.D in these two areas. Because of his pleasant personality, keen interest in Entrepreneurship I asked him later to Join the John Dobson Mentorship Program of technology entrepreneurs as manager of the program. During his doctoral program we started collaborating on research and he excelled in developing cases of entrepreneurs in Montreal and worldwide.
Jose was indeed a very decent and talented person and over the years we developed a a special friendship. I know he was happy at Grenfell campus of Memorial University and would not leave for any other opportunities.
Jose is a fine personality that is rare to find. My family and I will miss him.
My deepest condolence to his family in Vancouver, his students and the many friends.

WHEN I HEARD THE NEWS OF DR.JOSE LAM'S DEMISE I DID NOT BELIEVE IT
I SAW HIM IN MONTREAL LAST SUMMER AND HE WAS QUITE HEALTHY AND AS USUAL CHEERFUL AND FULL OF ENTHUSIASM ABOUT HIS PLAN TO VISIT INDIA DURING HIS SABBATICAL YEAR
AFTER HIS TRIP TO INDIA AND OTHER COUNTRIES HE MAILED ME ALL THOSE PHOTOS. NEVER EVER HE TALKED ABOUT HIS HEALTH
NOW TO HEAR THAT HE HAD LEFT US IS SOMETHING I COULD NOT ACCEPT
HE IS THE PERFECT EXAMPLE OF A PURE SOUL;HAPPY KIND ;ALWAYS READY TO HELP IF HELP IS NEEDED

I met Jose in front of his office when I was attending the annual meeting of Folklore Studies Association of Canada in June 2013. As a stranger, I stopped at his office at night and we started to talk. We are both Chinese and he told me his background as a third generation Chinese from Costa Rica. We became good friends since then. He came to St. John's to visit me and I stayed with him when I was in Corner Brook. He was very kind ans took a lot of time to show me around in Corner Brook. He always paid for my meal when I was a phd student and we had a few drinks at his place. He wrote me a reference letter which helped me to get an award in history. I was trying to meet him in 2017 when I came back to Newfoundland after my graduation in 2015, but he was in Vancouver with his family. I feel so.sad to hear this because I really want to see him again. Good luck, My friend!

I would like to give my deepest condolences to the family of Dr. Jose Lam on his sudden passing last weekend.
I first met Jose in the mid 1990’s after he had finished Business school at Concordia along with John Iwanic.
He was very easy to get along with always smiling and having a good time whenever we got together with John & Marty.
He will be surely missed.

When you someone's taxes you know a lot about them. After working with José for almost 30 years I liked him more every year. He was a mensch, I am glad I knew him. I will try to be more like him.

My deepest sympathies to the family of Jose Lam. He was one of the good guys and a very close friend and dear friend ever since our days together in the MBA program at Concordia in the early 90s.
More than that he became a de facto member of my extended family. He was around for many of my the outings I had with my nieces and nephew, whether it was at the PowWow, the Dragon Boat races, or the kids' or other family birthdays and Bar-B-Ques. He was well liked by all. One of my nieces commented today about how much she liked his laughs and giggles and that she would miss them.
Everyone I have talked to about this during the past week has been shocked and dismayed at his sudden passing. Many tears have been shed for him He has left us all too early.
