Obituary of Milligan Benjamin Batt
Please share a memory of Milligan to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Milligan Benjamin Batt, cherished husband, brother, father, grandfather and great grandfather, passed away peacefully at Western Memorial Hospital in Corner Brook, NL on March 19, 2021, at the tender age of 95 years surrounded by his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Mildred (Holwell) and his brother, Harold. He also leaves behind his sons Robert (Valda), David (Sandie) and his daughter Joyce (Don) Hynes, six grandchildren Heather (Paul) Huff, Scott (Tamara) Batt, Corey (Courtlin) Batt, Shawna Hynes (Richard Measham), Neil Hynes (Teagan Sullivan) and Brandon (Jenna) Batt as well as eight precious great grandchildren.
Milligan grew up in Herring Neck, a small fishing village on the northeast coast of Newfoundland. He was the first in his home village to attend Memorial University College in St. John’s. Upon graduation a teaching position brought him to Corner Brook where he built a house for himself, Mildred and his future family. He went on to pursue a career with the local municipal government and subsequently worked with the federal government until retirement.
Dad was a man blessed with a multitude of skills, talents and passions. Everything he undertook he was able to master from woodworking, to painting, to gardening and the list goes on. He was a modest, kind, gentle man and dear friend to all that he met. Dad was a proud, active member of his church and served his community through his past involvement in the local Lions Club as well as his over 60 years of service with the local chapter of the Masonic Lodge. But above all, he was proud of his family. He felt this was his greatest achievement and one he was eager to talk about with anyone who would listen, and he can rest assured that we are equally proud of him.
Dad, your love, guidance and wisdom will always be held dear in our hearts. You will be sorely missed and always remembered.
In memory of Milligan, donations to All Saints Anglican Church would be appreciated, as would your gift of a random act of kindness to someone who may need it.
In keeping with his wishes, small private viewings will be held on March 23, 2021followed by a small private service at Fillatre’s Funeral Home on March 24, 2021, with Rev. Tanya White officiating.
