Evangeline Payne

May 25, 1923 – March 26, 2021

It is with unbearable sadness that the family of Evangeline (Lean) Payne (nee Caines) announce her passing on March 26th, 2021 surrounded by her adoring family at the Palliative Care unit in Corner Brook. Formerly of Belldowns Point, NL, Evangeline spent most of her life living in the Corner Brook area where she raised the most wonderful family she could have ever hoped for. Her smile, laugh, hugs, kisses, superstitions, stories, dedication to her faith, and the love of her family will forever live on in the memories of everyone who knew her.

She left behind her flock of dedicated followers, her family – children: Grant (Ella), Cyril (Sandra), Milton (Amanda), Ingraham (Suzanne) and Dianne (John Sweetapple), special nephew: Richard (Marilyn) , grandchildren: Phyllis, Brian (Michelle), Jeff (Kim), Sheldon (Stacy), Michael (Tara), Cherie (James), Rochelle (Clayton), Robin (Mike), Heather (Josh), Julie (Glen), Bradley (Nikita) and Jeremy, great grandchildren: Bryce, Landis, Decker, Rachel, Maddox, Carley, Ethan, Jacob, Addison, Liam, Emma, Kyle, Hayley, and Caleb, sisters: Elizabeth Hiscock and Ula Payne and a large group of nieces, nephews, friends and family.

“Lean” was predeceased by her parents: Eliza Jane and Martin Caines, her husband: Leonard (Len) Payne, daughter: Agnes (Aggie), brothers: John, Wilson, Fred, and Martin, and sisters: Dorothy and Bertha.

The family would like to thank Dr. Tim Griffin, Shelley Taylor and the staff at Mountainview Estates, Dr. Ntambwe and the staff in the Emergency Department at WMRH, and Dr. Lafferty and the staff in the Palliative Care Unit at the Western Long Term Care Home.

Visitation to a maximum of 20 people in compliance with Covid-19 restrictions will take place at Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 4 St. Mark’s Avenue, Corner Brook on Monday, March 29th from 1-2 pm, 3-4 pm and 6-7 pm.  facemasks and physical distancing required. Funeral service will take place at St. Mary the Virgin Anglican Church, Cow Head on Tuesday, March 30th at 2:00 pm to a maximum of 25 people (facemasks and physical distancing required throughout the service) with Catechist Nora Shears officiating. Burial to follow at the Cow Head Cove Anglican Cemetery.  For those of you who wish to attend virtually the funeral service will be lived streamed through Fillatre’s Funeral Home Facebook page.

“Weep not for me my children dear:

I am not dead, just sleeping here.

I am not thou alone, Christ love me best

And took me home in his arms to rest.”
