Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories, her daughter, Marilyn Luscombe; son, Karl Wicks; beloved grandchildren: Christopher (Dawn) Luscombe, Cortney (Mark) Luscombe and Jamie (Heather) Luscombe; precious great grandchildren: Ava Rose, Regan, Sofia and Ella; sister-in-law, Goldie Sheppard; as well as a large circle of relatives and friends, in particular, very special friend and neighbour, Marilyn Bullen. She was predeceased by her husband, Willis (Bill) Wicks; daughter, Sharon Wicks; sister, Marie Sturge; sister-in-law, Emily Mullett; brother, Gilbert Pike. Born on February 22, 1927 to Jean and Gilbert Pike, Joan grew up in Petries. As a young woman she left Newfoundland to experience the big city of Toronto. After a year and a half, she returned to Newfoundland where she met and married the love of her life, Bill Wicks. Together they raised three children and built their cherished escape, a cottage at George’s Lake, where they spent many happy days with family and friends. Joan was very involved with the First United Church Women. Joan was a great neighbor to her friends on Reid Street for 63 years and was loved and respected by all. She was known for her compassion, kindness, generosity, intelligence, quick wit, humility, grace, strength and courage. She dearly loved her family. She was the heart of her family. The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Ahmed; the nurses of 3A, particularly Tonya and Dylan; and Dr. Dunn and the nurses of the Palliative Care Unit for their kindness and compassion. Friends may visit Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 4 St. Mark’s Avenue on Saturday, February 3rd from the hours of 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral Service will be held at First United Church, Park Street on Sunday, February 4th at 2:00 pm. Interment to follow at Mount Patricia Cemetery.
