John Tuach
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of John Tuach (1950-2021). John died peacefully at home on Sunday, April 18th at the age of 70. He was surrounded by his three children William, Kenneth and Heather Tuach, and their mother Ruth Gingrich. He also leaves behind grandchild Lukas John Esly, and special friend Judy Wareham.
John Tuach 'The Stoneman' was born in 1950 in Ullapool in the north of Scotland to Agnes Mackenzie and Willie John Tuach. He was the fifth generation in a line of stonemasons. University studies brought him to Newfoundland and he received a Ph.D in Geochemistry/Earth Science from Memorial University. After an eventful career in mining and exploration, he went back to his roots when he started the first flagstone operation in western Newfoundland (nlFlagstone). In retirement, John discovered new passions - skiing, birding, writing stories and poems and cultivating his gardens in Pynn’s Brook. His writings have been published in the Ullapool News, Uncle Gnarley Blog and in the Western Star newspaper.

FORTUNE SHONE
When I am dead, and my breath is gone,
Remember me as Stoneman John,
Or if on birds you were bemused,
Remember me - as bird enthused.
Perhaps you knew me with the trees?
Or geology or downhill skis?
Celebrate, as fortune shone,
Have few regrets, that I am gone.
Times well lived came my way,
And content I was in work and play.
