The Obituary for Frederick Edmunds Mesher
December 27, 1951 - June 10, 2021
It is with great sadness that the family of Frederick Edmunds-Mesher announce his passing on Thursday, June 10th, 2021, at the Labrador Grenfell Health Hospital in Happy Valley, Labrador. Fred was a rock and the best Dad he could have been to his daughters Elizabeth and Aleesha. They will forever miss him, his visits, his cooking, his jam and his bread.
He was a very loving grandpa to Dominic, Demaric, Daneeka, Daxx-Wyatt, Devri and Dru. He loved his grandchildren very much and his presence and teachings about shoveling snow, swimming, gardening and playing baseball will be deeply missed by his grandchildren. Kulu, who spent the majority of time with him at the final months of his life will miss him too. All of his treats, cooking and the time spent together watching tv.
Fred raised his daughters in Happy Valley, where he was born and raised. He was a Labrador man at heart, and he loved the outdoors, skidooing, gardening, cutting wood, fishing and being with his close family. Fred was the eldest of 14. He leaves behind his mother who is 88, as well as his eight brothers and his three sisters. He also leaves behind a large circle of nieces and nephews and a close few friends.
On Thursday, June 17th, 2021, visitation took place at the Fillatre’s Funeral Home. From 2:00 and 4:00 there will be an open visitation, and from 7:00 and 9:00 there will be a visitation for family only. Funeral service will be held at the Anglican Church between 2:00 and 3:00 on Friday, June 18th, 2021. With Reverend Nellie officiating with interment to follow at the Anglican Church Cemetery in Happy Valley-Goose Bay at 3:30.
Several people have asked how they can donate, so a GoFundMe page entitled, “Fred Mesher’s Memorial” has been created. All of the financial support will help cover the costs incurred during end of life and a headstone.
Condolences can be submitted through Fillatre’s Funeral Home website and a guestbook will be at the visitation and funeral. The family is accepting flowers and they can be sent to the Fillatre’s Funeral Home in Happy Valley Goose Bay.
We want to thank the doctors and nurses at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital and the Health Sciences Hospital in St. John’s Newfoundland, for their tireless effort to keep our Dad comfortable and safe. We also want to say thank-you to the nurses and doctors at the Labrador Grenfell Health Hospital for their hard and dedicated work to keep our Dad healthy. We also send a special thank you to everyone who has showed their support and love during this difficult time. Especially the Town of Happy Valley - Goose Bay for digging our Dad’s grave.
At this time the family asks for privacy, as they reflect, grieve and celebrate the passing of one of the most important people in their lives.
“You’re at ease now, Dad, we know you’ll always be there with us in Spirit. We know you are in Paradise with ease now. We will never forget you. We’ll be looking in every place, remembering you, until we meet, again. We love you, Dad. We love you, Grandpa”
