Predeceased by his parents, also by his sister Margaret (Midge) and sister Violet and brother-in-law Joseph Suspinski, Elmer Mosser, and Paul Crane, his Newfoundland brothers-in-law Garry White (Sylvia) and Gerald Fennemore (Carol) and his father and mother-in-law Emmanuel and Elizabeth (Betty) White.

Survived by his sisters Rosalie Heffner, Bertha Crane and Thelma Mosser; brothers-in-law Godfrey White, David White and sisters-in-law Carol Fennemore and June White; as well as many nieces and nephews in Ohio and Newfoundland.

He leaves to mourn his loving wife of 57 years Gloria Tanner (nee White) of Corner Brook, NL; son Michael Tanner (Michelle), Massey Drive; daughters Kimberly A. Tanner of Corner Brook and Ashley E. Tanner, Fredericton, NB; four beautiful grandchildren Matthew (Holly), Brandon (Robin), Lindsey and Carly and five beautiful great-grandchildren Jada, Jonah, Noah, William and Aaliyah.

Herb was employed by The Carnation Co. and Nestle Inc. until his retirement in 1998. Served his Country, winning many distinguished awards including the Bronze Star in Viet Nam. He was a very hard worker and a good provider to his family.

As per his wishes cremation has taken place and a celebration of his life will be announced at a later date.

There are no words that can express our heartfelt gratitude to all the staff, co-workers and Doctors who took such special care of Hobart; You are all special angels.

HIGH FLIGHT

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth

And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;

sunward I’ve climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth

of sun-split clouds- and done a hundred things.

you have not dreamed of – wheeled and sored and swung

High in the sunlit silence.

Hovèring there I’ve chased the shouting wind along,

and flung my eager craft through footless halls of air.

Up, up the long delirious, burning blue.

I’ve topped the windswept heights with easy grace.

Where never lark, or even eagle flew –

And while with silent lifting mind I’ve trod.

the high unsurpassed sanctity of space,

Put out my hand and touched the face of God.
