Obituary of Harriet McLean
Harriet McLean
(Nee: Butt)
July 28, 1929 - August 17, 2021
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Harriet McLean on August 17, 2021at Western Memorial Regional Hospital at the age of 92.
She will be forever remembered and loved by her children Sandra (Russell) Park, Scott (Laurie) McAuley, Danny (Tiffany) McLean and Kelley (Jeff Wells) McLean; daughter-in-law Marina McAuley. Her grandchildren Tonya (her special personal nurse), Tony, Stephen, Tommy, Samuel, Lucas, Markus and Lindsey (Nan’s dancer and bracelet keeper). Her great grandchildren Kameron, Trisha, Tony, Lacey, Terri-Lynn, Tyson, Brittan and Payton. Her great great grandchildren Naomi, Luciana, Elizabeth, Maverick and Kache. Sister in Laws Eilleen Butt, Beulah McLean, and also best friend and sister in law Susie McLean who she shared a close bond and friendship with for over forty years. Her special niece Lorraine Loder who visited her regularly and kept her hair beautiful up to her final days. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was predeceased by her husbands Angus McAuley and Alexander McLean, her son Randy McAuley, Parents Emanuel and Rachel Butt and brother John Joe Butt.
Harriet had strong faith and was committed to her faith until the end. She was a pillar of strength and always wanted to lead and made sure we knew it. She was a strong independent woman which she demonstrated after losing her first husband at a very young age with three children and again losing her second husband and best friend years later. Her true strength was revealed when she lost her son where she showed her children that you grieve and move forward. This is what she would want us to do now.
She started teaching at the age of sixteen and her profession brought her to Summerside from Perry’s Cove with a short teaching term in Silverdale in between. Her passion was reading but her biggest passion was shopping. We will miss her call and famous words “be careful. I love you” and most of all the loving person she was.
Special thanks to the compassionate and professional care of the nursing staff of 3BC at Western Memorial Regional Hospital and to the staff of Bayshore Estates where she resided for the past two years. She always said “they are good to me here.”
Visitation will be held 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM on Thursday August 19, 2021 at St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Summerside. Funeral service will be at 2 PM on Friday August 20, 2021 at St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Summerside with Rev. Dcn. Karen Loder officiating.
