Obituary of Hollis Yetman

Please share a memory of Hollis to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

With shattered hearts, we are sad to announce the passing of a beautiful soul, that we were honored to call husband, father, grandfather, great - grandfather, brother, uncle and a friend to many.

Hollis Yetman Sr. passed away August 21, 2021 while a resident of Long Term Care, Goose Bay, NL. He passed away after an 11 month battle with his health after a stroke September 21, 2020.

He was born August 15, 1938 in Red Bay, Labrador where his father was a lightkeeper. His birth in a lighthouse was a story he told to anyone he met.

No one loved life more than Hollis Sr. We know he wouldn't want us to wallow alone or for long in our grief. Even during those 11 months, he was quick witted and funny, loved music, and was always concerned about his wife Betty. During his last moments he would ask about his true love. He was a true beacon of light in our world.

Leaving to mourn are his wife of 60 years Betty, his children: Donna (Joe) Arsenault, Hollis Jr. (Lynn), Dwayne (Judy Harvey); grandchildren: Ashley, Thomas, Ben, Justin, Hillary ( Zack), Dayna ( Aaron), Breagh, Erin, Tyler, and his only great - grandchild Anna. He also loved his four legged friends: Kona, Ranger, Parker, Bear and Bandit.

The eldest of 10 children he leaves to mourn a large family including his brothers and sisters: Eva (Edmund - Deceased) Ryan, James (Doreen), Harold (Carrie), Betty (Ron) Ryan, Sadie (Isaac) Howell, Senie (Harvey) Pye, Stewart ( Betty), Lester ( Carolyn), Cyril (Patricia), as well a a large number of nieces and nephews from both the Yetman and Turnbull families who know him for his sense of humour and his zest for life and adventure. He also leaves a large circle of dear friends who will miss his wit, ability to make anything from wood and his willingness to help out.

Hollis Yetman Sr. has been cremated. A celebration and tribute to his life will be announced shortly. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the community food bank, the SPCA or to the Kinsmen Centre in Happy Valley Goose Bay which he was a founding charter member.

We would like to extend our thanks and appreciation to the staff of Long Term Care for their exceptional TLC to dad. We could not have managed through the last 11 months without your support and caring.

Hollis Yetman Sr. Memorial Service will take place at Happy Valley Goose Bay United Church, 124 Hamilton River Road,  on Friday, August 27, 2021 by Invitation Only or if you are interested in attending and haven't from the family, please contact Donna Arsenault at 709-899-3635. It will also be virtual on Facebook.
