Obituary of Blanche St. George
Blanche St. George, RN
It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Blanche St. George, our beloved mother and family matriarch, at 100 years of age, after a full and rewarding life. Mom will be remembered by all her family as an incredible mother and role model, with elegant style (necklace and earrings were never optional), and her uncanny resemblance to Queen Elizabeth II. Blanche was exceptionally welcoming to all who came to her home, and took great pride in hosting many delicious meals for family and friends around the dining room table, that always included yummy desserts. Blanche was truly faithful and known for her daily prayers, many of which she offered up for her children! Mom was so fortunate to have the use of her wonderful mind right to the end and to know that she was loved by all her family.
Born in Bay Bulls, NL, on January 20, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Jeremiah and Josephine Williams. Blanche was a graduate of the 1942 Class of St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, and worked as a Registered Nurse and an X-Ray Technician. In 1950, she moved to Corner Brook and joined the staff at Western Memorial Hospital where she met and married our Dad, Kevin F. St. George. They were blessed to share 66 years together raising their children, and teaching us the value of love and commitment.
Mom leaves to mourn, with fond and special memories, her children: Corinne (Alan), Dunrobin, ON, Michelle (Bruce), Corner Brook, NL, Yvette (Joe), Malignant Cove, NS, Sean (Carla), Rocky Harbour, NL, Seumas (Christine), Chatham, IL and Shane (Ken), Georgeville, NS; grandchildren, Andrew, Stuart, Iain, Brett (Anne), Duncan, Allison (Johnathon), Natalie, Kevin, Emma, Marion and Chrissy; great grand-daughter, Lily, and sister-in-law, Dossie St. George. She is also survived by her loving nieces and nephews and her long-time friends in the Bridge Club. She was predeceased by our Dad, Kevin F. St. George, and was the last surviving member of her immediate family, having been predeceased by her parents, and her siblings: Kathleen Tipton, Philip Williams, Angus Williams, Ursula Johnson and Dorothy Grouchy.
Blanche was a longtime volunteer (34 years) at Western Memorial Hospital Gift Shop, IODE, Victorian Order of Nurses, and Girl Guides of Canada.
The family would like to extend sincere gratitude and thanks to Dr. Robert Young, and Brenda Martin, for their loving care and kindness towards Mom. Additional thanks to the staff of Restorative Care and 3 South at Corner Brook Long Term Care Home, for their care, empathy, and dedication to Mom.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at Holy Redeemer Cathedral on Thursday, August 26 at 11:00 a.m. The burial will follow at Mount Patricia Cemetery.
Friends are invited to visit the family at Fillatres Funeral Home, 4 St. Mark’s Avenue on Wednesday, August 25 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m., and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Flowers graciously accepted. Donations in Mom’s memory may be made to the Corner Brook Long Term Care Home, Western Regional Hospital Foundation. On-line condolences to the family may be sent to www.fillatre.ca
Mom will be deeply missed and forever in our hearts and minds. May she rest in peace as she joins her dear husband, our loving Dad, in heaven.
