Born in Independent Harbour, NL.
July 6, 1936 – September 22, 2021
Labrador has lost one of her most wise, kind, selfless and treasured sons. The family of the late Kenneth Mesher is heartbroken to announce his passing on September 22, 2021, in his 85th year. After a courageous battle with cancer, he went peacefully at his home, surrounded by family, friends and love.
Ken leaves behind his loving family, including Jennifer Taylor (Craig), Jennie Williams (Jamie), Eugene Davis, Evelyn Learning (Baxter), Terry Davis (Barb), Jane Hopkins (Larry), John Davis (late Audrey), Mary Davis, Joyce Elliott (late Gursh), as well as the late Norman Davis. Ken was predeceased by his best friend and partner Kathleen (Kate) Davis, his parents Maude Mesher (Née Lamare) and Bob Mesher, sister Francis Brown and brothers Dennis, Bob, Nelson, and Rupert Mesher. He is survived by his sister Emily Jones.
Ken was adored by his many friends, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and his extended family from the Royal Canadian Legion, the Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary, and the Canadian Rangers.
Friends may visit Fillatre’s Funeral Home on Thursday September 23rd, 2021, from 7:00-9:00pm and Friday September 24th from 2:00-4:00pm and 7:00-9:00pm. The funeral service will be held at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church in Happy Valley-Goose Bay on Saturday September 25th at 2:00pm with Reverend Amber Tremblett and Reverend Nellie Thomas officiating. Interment will follow in the afternoon of Sunday September 26th at the Cartwright Cemetery.
Ken’s family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks for the kindness and compassion of the staff at Labrador-Grenfell Health, especially Dr. Gabe Woolam and Nurses Zena, Angie, Denise, Leanna, and Pam.
As expressions of sympathy, flowers are graciously accepted and donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice as a way to honour Ken’s lifelong legacy of warm-hearted generosity and spirit of “cheerful giving”.
