Veronica Gertrude Hickey

It is with great sorrow that the family of Veronica (Vera) Hickey announce her passing on Thursday, September 30, 2021 at Western Long Term Care Centre, Corner Brook at the age of 88 years. Vera (nee McCarthy) was born on July 17, 1933 on Wood’s Island, which she always called home. She leaves a multitude of people who will miss her forever, her sons Jack (Carol Ann) and Dan (Barb), daughters Lorraine (Mike) White and Sheila Jarvis (Julian, deceased 2002),  eight grandchildren: Brad (Alice), Jeffrey, Beverley (Robert), Melissa (Glen), Chrissie (Larry), Stephen (Jaclyn), Ashley (Felix) and Kimberley (Jordan); 12 great grandchildren: Jeremy, Travis, Brady, Noah, Alexis, Madison, Carter, Logan, Lennox, Nora, Tenley and Mitchell and one great great grandson Leland; brother-in-law Jim and two sisters-in-law Mary and Dorothy, as well as several nieces, nephews and friends. Vera is predeceased by her husband of 43 years,  John (Captain Jack) Hickey, two grandchildren Mary and Dwayne, mother and father  Veronica and John McCarthy; brothers: Michael, Frank, Nick, Benny, Robert and Tony; sisters: Elizabeth Tucker, Katie Deluney and Eileen McCarthy; son-in-law Julian Jarvis, parents-in-law James and Mary Ann Hickey; sisters-in-law: Annie, Jenny, Gertrude, Jessie, Monica, Mildred, Rose, Myra and Sylvia; brothers-in-law: Edward Tucker and Cecil Deluney, George, Nath, Leo , and Martin Hickey, and Ross Companion.  A special thanks to the doctors and nurses of Western Memorial Hospital and the Long Term Care. Your kindness will always be remembered. Friends may visit Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 218 Curling Street Saturday and Sunday from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm, to a maximum of 30 visitors at a time.  In compliance with Covid-19 regulations, masks are mandatory at the visitations and funeral service.  The Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, October 4th, 2021 at 10:30 am to a maximum of 50 people from Our Lady Star of the Sea Church in Benoits Cove. Monsignor Jim Robertson officiating. Those wishing to attend the funeral service please contact a family member to register. The interment will follow at the Old Roman Catholic cemetery, Benoits Cove. As expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers donations may be made to Our Lady Star of the Sea Parish.
