Velma Rodgers
March 27, 1931 – November 14, 2021

It is with sadness and broken hearts, the family of the Velma Rodgers (Seward) announce her peaceful passing at the Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Long Term Care Home on Sunday, November 14, 2021, at the age of 90 years. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her 7 children: Barbara (Dave), George (Heather), Darlene (Terry),

Brenda (Rob), Joanne (Scott), Paula (Chuck) and Jackie (Wally); 14 grandchildren: Shawn, Leslie, Jonny, David, Jody, Janine, Kayla, Junior, Tegan, Steven, Dayna, Travis, Tara, and Kimberly; several great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild. Velma also leaves to mourn her four sisters, Flora (Fred), Myrtis (Fred), Elsie and Joan (Wayne), her special friend Severin Bourgeois as well as a large circle of friends. Velma was predeceased by her father Edward and mother Phoebe Ann, her husband Thomas, daughters Bonnie and Blanche (Brian) and her brother Wilson (Marion).

Velma was born in Winterton, Newfoundland and lived most of her life in Goose Bay, Labrador where she raised her family. With Newfoundland roots, Velma and her husband moved back to Newfoundland and made Hearts Content their home. Velma’s door was always open for her family and friends. Her family was her focus and passion, and we are forever grateful. She loved her garden and spent much of her days enjoying the beautiful view of the Hearts Content Harbor. She was a strong, independent woman who will always be loved and missed.

Visitation will be held at Fillatre’s Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 16, 2021, from the hours of 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A church service by invitation will be held on Wednesday, November 17, at 2pm at St. Andrews Anglican Church, with an interment to follow at the Anglican cemetery. Due to Covid-19 Government Regulations face masks and Vaccine Passports are required for the visitation and funeral service.

The family would like to express their heartfelt thank you to Dr Heather O’Dea and the staff at the Protective Care Unit for your care and compassion. You are all angels.

We sat beside your bedside, our hearts were crushed and sore,

we did our best until the end, but we could do no more.

In tears we watched you sinking, we watched you fade away and though our

hearts were breaking, we knew you could not stay.

You left behind some aching hearts, that loved you most sincere, we never shall

and never will, forget one we loved so dear.
