David Mark Byrne

October 21, 1939 – November 28, 2021

York Harbour, NL

After almost 8 years of being confined to a chair, our Dad has finally found his freedom. We, the family, take great comfort in knowing he is “flying” again, but this time with the angels of heaven.  David gained his wings on Sunday, November 28, 2021 at the Palliative Care Unit of Western Memorial Regional Hospital. He was a strong-willed and hard-working man who had a great love for the outdoors, hunting, fishing and gardening. Later in his life, his greatest passions were planes and flying them. David leaves behind his three daughters: Pansy Lee (Harold), Betty Wayson (Kevin), Tracy Greene (Darren); grandchildren:  Marvin Lee (Angie), Cindi Lee, Jeremy Lee (Candice), Matthew Wayson (Nicole), Marlee Wayson, and Dawson Greene; great grandchildren: Colby, Logan, Landon, Hannah, Skylar, Brooklyn, Brody, and Jenny;  brothers: Tom, Ross, Ben, and Gord; sisters: Maisie, Hazel, Kathleen, Annie, and Lynn;  brothers and sisters in-law: Max, Cassie, Junior, Hazel, Bernice, Jerome, Robert, and Lyndon. Predeceased by his wife, our mom, Shirl (June 16, 2016), his parents Mark and Margaret Byrne, brothers Brian, Ivan and Gerald, his parents in-law Albert and Elizabeth Strickland. There were many special people who were good to our father especially: Winston Childs, Wayne Dicks, Father Terry, Myles Humber, Gerald Humber, Raymond Batt, Barbara and Emerson Ralph. Special thanks to Jody, Tara, Shane, Mary and Dr. Morris for all their care and kindness. As per David’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Due to Covid 19 restrictions, a funeral service, to a maximum of 50 people, will take place on Wednesday, December 1st at 2:00 PM from Fillatre’s Funeral Chapel, St. Marks Avenue, and Fr. Ed Terry officiating. Sign-in, mask and social distancing required. Interment will follow at the family plot at St. James Anglican Cemetery, Lark Harbour. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be mad to the charity of one’s choice.

I am not a tiny sparrow

I do not have wings

Nor can I fly

But in this world of grief and sorrow

I am bound until I die
