Patricia Ellen Cormier (nee Dunphy) passed away peacefully on February 9, 2018 at the age of 92 with her five children by her side. Patricia was the daughter of Patrick Joseph Dunphy and Annie Corbage. Born in Boston she moved to Corner Brook with her parents in the early days of the mill. Patricia loved Corner Brook and was happiest when surrounded by family, friends, good music for dancing and a manhattan.Patricia married Harold Patrick Cormier in 1950 and together they raised five children. Left to cherish her precious memories are Keith (Doris), Terry (Christine Jensen), Kathy (Gary Kearney), Mary and Hal. Left to carry on her traditions are her ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren: Richard (Melanie), Adam (Danika) and Jon (Jessica), Keith’s children; Stephanie (Fred), Emmanuelle and Christoffer, Terry’s children; Jamie-Lee (Brad), Kathy’s daughter; Megan and Erika, Mary’s daughters; Anna, Hal’s daughter. Great grandchildren Emily, Liam, Nathan Harold and Juniper.Patricia was predeceased by her husband Harold who passed in 2006 and her siblings Kevin, Jack, Donald, Terry, and Larry and by her brother-in-law Daniel and her sisters-in-law Mabel, Shirley, and Marcheta. She is survived by her brother George (Ruby) and sisters Anita and Sandy (Hank), sisters-in-law Ruby, Thelma, Terri and Patricia, as well as numerous other relatives and friends who had the privilege of being touched by her beautiful spirit. After finishing high school in St. George’s, Patricia did a year of studies at St. Francis University during World War II. Upon her return to Corner Brook she worked at the Mill until she and Harold married and started their family. With one of her first pay cheques she purchased land at Boom Siding. The cabin at Sleepy Valley became and continues to be where treasured memories live. Patricia returned to work with a young family, first as an accountant clerk and then accountant. She returned to school obtaining qualifications as an accountant. In 1980 she graduated from Memorial University with a Bachelor of Vocational Education. For many years she instructed Business Administration students at the Vocational School in Corner Brook. Patricia believed fervently in the value of family and community. She was active in many activities and clubs in Corner Brook. She was Treasurer of Corner Brook’s first ski club at Massey Drive. For many years she was Treasurer of the Marble Mountain Ski Club. From playing women’s softball in her 20s, to swimming and downhill skiing until she was in her 80s, she believed in active living. Viewing at Fillatre’s Funeral Home in Corner Brook on Sunday, February 11 from 7:00 – 9:00 pm and on Monday, February 12 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm and 7:00-9:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Edward Terry on Tuesday, February 13, 10:00 am at the Cathedral of the Most Holy Redeemer and Immaculate Conception. Cremation to follow at Humber Valley Crematorium. Flowers or a donation to the Western Memorial Regional Hospital Foundation or a charity of your choice is gratefully appreciated.
