My deepest sympathy to the family of Eric. May your memories of your time with your father/grandfather/relative/friend, help you through the loss of someone so dear to you.
First of all, my memories of Eric go back to my cousin, Cora, who would come to our home for visits during the summer and then one day there was talk in our house of Cora going to marry a man named Eric Matchim. Although that name was a new one in our household, it did become a familiar one that was spoken with love and respect. Cora and Eric would drive from Deer Lake in their camper/trailer to visit mom and dad. They would park their vehicle in our yard and spend a few days there which my parents really enjoyed. Cora was always special to mom and dad and Eric had soon become part of those affections.
Eric will be remembered by myself as being gentle, kind, warm and respectful. Just being in his presence gave a sense of calm.
Not many years ago on one of my visits home, my brother, Ronnie, picked me up at the Deer Lake airport and we decided to stop by to visit Eric & Cora. I will never forget the reception we received at their home; it was such a warm welcome and it made me feel so happy that we had visited them. We got caught up on the news of their family and in turn, they wanted to hear about news in our lives. It was a visit I can reflect upon as such a fond memory which I will always treasure.
Thank you, Eric, for being the person you were in our lives.
Gladys (daughter of Emma & Wesley Menchenton)
