It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness we announce the passing of Simeon William Spencer (Sim), age 91 on Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at Calder Health Care Centre LTC in Burgeo, NL. He leaves to mourn with many found and loving memories his children Dorothy, Donald, Mildred (Chesley), Calvin (Jeanette) and daughter in-law Denise. Grandchildren Trudy (Collin), Sheldon (Allison), April, and Caitlin. Great-grandchildren Joshua, Rylan and Raya. Sisters Louise, Hilda (Mike), Annie, Ruby (Jim), Maizie (Norman), Beatrice (Frank), Doris (Gerald), Eileen, and Marilyn (Frank).
He will be eternally reunited with his loving wife Annie May, and their children Bernard, Roy and Mary and daughter-in-law Sharon. His father Simeon Sr., mother Josephine, father in-law Albert Billard, mother in-law Elizabeth Billard. Brothers Frank, John, Freddie and Cecil. Sisters Vera, Edith, and Thelma. He also leaves behind a large circle of nieces and nephews and extended family and friends.
Sim was a hard and dedicated worker who started working at the age of 14 years. At the age of 21 he married the love of his life Annie May and she blessed him with seven children. At the age of 22 he started his own business where he worked hard until his retirement. Many residents of Burgeo have fond memories of visiting him at "Sims Shop". In his younger years Sim loved to salmon fish and spend time with his wife and children at Grandy's Brook. In his retirement years you would often see him at Sandbanks park berry picking.
We would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Kellow and the staff of Calder Health Care Centre LTC for the kind and gentle care they provided to Sim while he was a resident there.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 16, 2021 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm at St. John the Evangelist Church (VaxPass, identification and mask required). A funeral service will be held on Friday December 17, 2021 at 2:00 pm at St. John the Evangelist Church by Rev. Deacon Brenda Strickland. Interment to follow at Burgeo Community Cemetery.
