It is with great sadness the family announce her passing on January 22, 2022, at the age of 85 years old. She died peacefully at the Corner Brook Long Term Care. Hazel was predeceased by her husband Osborn in 2013, her parents James and Verena Chaffey, her brother Gary Chaffey and sister Verena Butt. She will be deeply missed by her loving family, sons Anthony of St. David’s, Bruce (Yvonne) of Victoria, B.C., Darrell (Sheila) of Courtenay, B.C. and daughter Lisa Hulan-Brake (Glenn) of Fort McMurray, Alta., and her pet dog Ginger. She will also be deeply missed by her sisters Dulcie of California, Wanda (Terry) of Ontario and brothers, Vincent (Linda) of St. John’s and Glenn (Faye) St. David’s. Grandchildren Michael (Megan), Melissa (Cecil), Kelsey (Curtis), Brandon, Jessie, Brittany. Great grandchildren, Nicholas, Riley, Lydia, Alaya, Landon and Ethan.
Hazel was born in St. David’s, Newfoundland. When she and Osborn married, they built a home in McKay’s where she raised her family and worked on the family farm. She was an active member of the community. She supported St. George’s Anglican Church at Robinsons and the Anglican Church Women’s Association all her life.
She was a member of the Three Rivers Lionesses working to support community events and the club. She enjoyed serving on community committees and boards.
Hazel’s family wish to express heartfelt gratitude to Judy Gillam who provided home care and support while she lived at home. We would also like to sincerely thank Irene Shears who provided comfort and support at the LTC facility in Corner Brook. The family would also like to thank the staff at Corner Brook Long Term Care for their kind and loving care.
In keeping with Hazel’s wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at a later date when COVID restrictions have eased. As an expression of sympathy, if one so chooses, donations can be made to the Saint George’s Anglican Church, Robinson’s (Memorial Fund) or a charity of your choice.
