It is with great sadness that the family of the late Betty Loretta Hillyard announce her passing on March 10, 2022, at the Western Long Term Care Palliative Care unit at the age of 87 years. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are her Husband Robert Hillyard; Sisters-in-law: Ruby Hillyard, Betty Jean Hillyard, Harriet Elizabeth Hillyard, Eileen Penney, Vonnie Hillyard; nieces: Michelle King (Duane, Jordan and Nathan), Raelene Hillyard (Breanna), Wanda Hillyard, Debbie Cook (Wayne and Ryan), Sharon Swanlon, Dale Porterfield (Jim), Marilyn Sherman (Don); nephews: Rob Evans, Colin Hillyard (Suzanne), Rob Evans (Maureen) of Burlington, Brian Penney (Suzanne and Cole), David Penney, as well as a large circle of great-nieces, great-nephews, other beloved relatives and close friends. Betty was predeceased by her parents Earl and Mary Penney, biological father Chester Bishop, brother Wilson Penney (Eileen); niece Lisa Ivany; brothers-in-law: Donald Hillyard (Marjorie), Verrick Hillyard (Sadie), Major Calvin Hillyard, Bruce Hillyard, Bob Evans; sisters-in-law: Hazel Evans and May Auvigne.

The family would like to extend a special “Thank-you” to Cousin Rob Giles (Pat), the nurses at Western Long-Term Care – Palliative Care Unit, Captains Darren and Danette Woods, as well as a large circle of special family and friends.

Betty was a prominent member of the Salvation Army Citadel Home League, Songster Brigade and Sunday school. She was also an avid camper, who loved spending her summers at her motor home with her beloved husband Robert and their many special friends who camped with them at Birchy Lake.

Following COVID-19 rules and regulations, visitations will be held at Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 4 St. Mark’s Avenue on Saturday, March 12th from the hours of 2-4 & 7-9 PM. Vaccine Passports, ID and face masks will be required for entry. The funeral service will be held on Sunday, March 13th at 2:00 PM from the Salvation Army Citadel on Clarence Street with Captains Darren and Danette Woods officiating. Internment to follow at Mount Patricia Cemetery.
