Obituary of John Barter

Barter, John Jr. – Passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 22, 2022 at Western Regional Memorial Hospital, Corner Brook, John (Jack) Barter, of Burgeo in his 79th year. He joins in Heaven his wife of 52 years, Eva (Lushman) and his parents, Jack and Olivia (Keeping) Barter.

Beloved father of Nancy, Maisie (Craig), Dallas (Bruce), Dean, and Wayne (Karen). Much loved grandpa of Michael, Summer, Shannon, Josh, Alex, Olivia, Hope and Jack and great-grandfather of James. Dear brother of Margaret. Dear brother-in-law of Bill, Frank, Tom, Ron, Harriet and Laura.

He will be fondly remembered by his caregivers Pansy and Trudy and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Jack was a lifelong hunter and fisherman who knew his favourite hunting territory of Red Island like the back of his hand. He delighted in regaling friends with colourful accounts of his latest outdoor adventures. Throughout his life, he took great pleasure and comfort in providing elderly neighbours and shut-ins with fresh fish, wild game and berries.

Friends may visit St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church in Burgeo on Friday, March 25, 7-9 p.m. and Saturday, March 26 10 a.m. – 12 noon from where the funeral service will take place at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Elsie Rose officiating. The family are requesting that visitors wear a face covering. Interment to follow at the Burgeo Community Cemetery.
