Obituary of Bill Hickey

Bill (William) John Hickey October 21, 1949 – September 24, 2009 It is with great sadness that the family of the late Bill Hickey of Halfway Point announce his sudden passing after a courageous battle with cancer on September 24, 2009 at Western Memorial Regional Hospital. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife of 35 years Maureen (Donahue), sons Keith (Tammy) Benoit’s Cove, and Jason of Halfway Point. Special Family members Scott (Janice) Pennell and Daughter Kelsey of Corner Brook. Special family friend Cory Gillard who was like a son to him. Special dog Buddie who spent many days and evenings with ‘Pop’ and keeping him company. Bill also leaves to mourn his mother Clara Hickey, Benoit’s Cove and a number of brothers and sisters, Lester (Loretta) , Halfway Point, Hilda (Tony) Donahue , Halfway Point, Rose (Pat) O’Connell, Halfway Point, Lloyd (Grace) , Mount Moriah, Howard , Benoit’s Cove, Philomena (Ross) Abbott , Johns Beach, Chris (Connie) , Alberta, Brian , Benoit’s Cove, Clayton (Della) , Benoit’s Cove, Carolyn (Blair) Lodge , Ontario, as well as a number of nieces and nephews. Bill also leaves to mourn Mother and Father in law Kevin and Mary Donahue, brother-in-law Terry Donahue ( Debbie), Phonse Donahue (Willomena), sister in law Angela (Rick) Cabot, and Rose Marie (Alfred) Ford.He was predeceased by his father William Hickey and brother Cyril. Also leaving to mourn a special group of men, his coworkers in which he spent many long hours with aboard the MV Gemini II. Bill had a spice for life and kept busy at all times, whether it be fishing in which he made a living at, or spending time at his cabin in Spruce Brook, his pride and joy. He enjoyed life to the fullest. He had a lot of close friends who cared greatly for him, and made his day by dropping by for a chat, giving him a call or going for a coffee with him. He had a loving personality and a way to make anyone chuckle. He definitely will not be forgotten, and will be deeply missed. Cremation has taken place at Humber Valley Crematorium. Visitation will take place from Fillatre’s Funeral Home Chapel, 218 Curling Street on Saturday 2-4 and 7-9:00 p.m, from where the funeral service will be held on Sunday, September 27th at 2:30 p.m., followed by interment at Mt Patricia cemetery. Father Bernard Buckle officiating. As expressions of sympathy, flowers are graciously accepted or donations may be made to the Western Memorial Regional Hospital Foundation or to the charity of one’s choice.
