It is with a sense of loss and happy memories we announce the passing of Hedley John Saunders of Corner Brook on Saturday, April 16, 2022 in his 98^th year. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories two sons: Richard (Mimajoan) and Frederick (Marilyn), Corner Brook; eight daughters: Joan (Rudy) Wells, Corner Brook, Donna (Gerry) Hayes, Torbay, Barbara (Lewis) White, St. John’s, Elsie (David) Wicks, Gander, Judy (Russell) Massie, Torbay, Karen Saunders (David Ertel, Haliburton, Ont., Sandra (Andrew) Celovsky, Deep River, Ont. And Raelene (Howard) Parsons, Corner Brook; daughter-in-law Holly (Norman) Sheppard, Corner Brook; two sisters-in-law: Margaret Escajada, Augusta, Maine and Sandra (Willis) Bartlett, Truro, N.S. and brother-in-law Gary (Eva) Peyton, Corner Brook; two step-sons: Norman (Holly) Sheppard, Corner Brook and Benjamin Sheppard (Glenda Kettle), Pasadena; step-daughter Donna Sheppard (Joseph Jones), Halfway Point and Step-daughter-in-law Janie Sheppard, York Harbour; a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren and a large circle of relatives and friends. Special mention to management and staff of the Lohnes Complex where he spent the last 20 plus years as a resident. Predeceased by his wife Audrey (Peyton), parents John and Emma Saunders, Greenspond, step-mother Emily (Butt), son David, granddaughter Gayle Wells, step-grandson Terry Wells, sister Violet, brother Isaac and sister-in-law Muriel, sister Elsie and brother-in-law Maxwell Thornhill, parents-in-law Munden and Violet Peyton and other family members, second wife Rhoda (Sheppard), step-son Aubrey Sheppard, step-daughter Dianne Sheppard and step-son-in-law Randy Sheppard and other friends. Visitation will take place at Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 4 St. Mark’s Avenue on Monday, April 18 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Family are requesting all visitors please wear a face covering. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 19 at 2:00 p.m. from Humber United Church, Clarence Street with Rev. Jocelyn Cook officiating. Interment to follow at Mount Patricia Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Humber United Church or a memorial charity of choice, no flowers by request.
