Obituary of Juanita Blanche Hoddinott
Juanita Blanche Hoddinott
Stephenville Crossing, NL
Oct. 24, 1927 - Apr. 27, 2022
Juanita Hoddinott - It is with sadness, yet fond and loving memories, that the family of Juanita Hoddinott announce she passed peacefully on Wednesday, April 27th 2022 in her 95th year, at the Bay St. George Long Term Care Centre, Stephenville Crossing, NL.
Juanita Blanche (nee White) was born October 24, 1927 in Sandy Cove, NL. She was one of four children born to Rose and Abe White. Juanita knew the value of hard work and those who knew her well would say she was a "Jill-of-all-trades". She worked as a nurse's aid at the Grenfell Mission Hospital in St. Anthony, a lumber camp cook and a clerk in Flowers Cove, all before the age of 23 !! On April 27, 1950, Juanita married Seymour Hoddinott and together they had three children, Ivan (Laura), Gloria, and Terry (Georgina). As a devoted mother and wife, she worked diligently as a homemaker while the family moved around Newfoundland as Seymour worked with Bowaters. Then, together they became business owners, operating the Steel Mountain Service Station in St. Georges, before retiring to Deer Lake. Even in retirement, Juanita continued to keep busy. She tended large gardens (from which many people savored the fruits and vegetables of that labor), knitted, crocheted & sewed anything she got her hands on, quilted (with love) and enjoyed a rousing (and sometimes competitive) round of cards when opportunity knocked. Throughout her life, Juanita was a selfless and kind-hearted soul. She used her time and talents to bless those around her - from snow clearing a neighbour's driveway (at 80 nonetheless!) to making a home-cooked meal to share, she cared for others well. Her grandchildren would arguably say that she made THE best pancakes in the world ! In addition to hard-work, Juanita was also fun loving, a story-teller by nature, a prankster at times, and enjoyed being part of the community. In her 90th year, she was still working out at the local gym, which included lifting weights several times a week!
Juanita is pre-deceased by her husband (2013), her sister Stella and her brother Ron. She will be deeply missed by her children, grandchildren: Jason, Trudy (Jonathon), Melanie, Heather (Joe), Terra-Lee (Richard), Minal and Kyle (Ashley); great-grandchildren: Cora Lynn, Caleb, Cassidy, Tyrone, Briana, Travis, Tyler, Madison, Calex, Amrik, Calliope, Madilyn, Jamie and Madilyn; her sister Marion, sister-in-law Julie, and a circle of friends and relatives.
There will be a visitation on April 28, 2022, 7-9pm at Fillatre's Funeral Home, Stephenville Crossing. A funeral service to remember and honor Juanita will be held April 29, 2022 at 2pm at All Saints Anglican Church, Stephenville Crossing with Reverend Cutler officiating. Interment will follow at the Anglican Church Cemetery, Stephenville Crossing.
For those wishing to express sympathy, donations to a charity of choice is welcomed.
