Obituary of Alphonse Penney

It is with deep sadness that the family of the late Alphonse Penney announce his passing on Monday, June 13^th, 2022, at the Corner Brook Palliative Care Unit at the age of 90 years. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife of 68 years Mima (nee Wilton); his four children Sharon (Graham), Alphonse Jr, Greg (Lisa), and Bert (Elizabeth); his nine grandchildren Erin (Peter), Kristen (Matthew), Robyn (Kyle), Jordan (Abigail), Jamie (Taylor), Aisha (Jordan), R.J., Tyler, and Jeremy; his four great-grandchildren Jasper, Jensen, Nora, and Ellen; his sister Ramona Woolridge; brother-in-law Claude Wilton (Ulah); sisters-in-law Winifred Pretty and Georgie Trenchard. 

He was predeceased by his parents Bert and Gwendoline Penney; parents-in-law Hedley and Elizabeth Wilton; brothers-in-law William Wilton, Robert Wilton, and Raymond Woolridge. 
 

Alphonse worked as a pipe fitter for 40 years at the local paper mill. He enjoyed playing hockey in his younger years and was a hunter and salmon fisher. He was an avid curler, golfer and resumed downhill skiing once he retired. His true love and passion was spending time with his wife and family. After retirement, he and Mima spent many winters in Florida. He also travelled frequently with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a long-time member of the Corner Brook Westgate Masonic Lodge and the Corner Brook Ham Radio Club.

Funeral Arrangements are entrusted to Fillatres Funeral Home with visitation taking place on Wednesday, June 15^th from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at 4 St. Marks Avenue.

 
The funeral service will take place on Thursday, June 16^th at 2pm at the chapel in Fillatres Funeral Home on St. Marks Avenue, Corner Brook, with Reverend John van Vliet officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Patricia Cemetery.
